“We use the Kingfisher device daily to take firmness measurements of our fruit. We do it for all our producers on all citrus varieties packed. We built up an extensive database that includes detail like producers, varieties, orchards, packing day, etc. This enabled us to set thresholds for each commodity measuring as soft or firm. The most important aspect now is for receivers of fruit in the market to do the same measurements to put a value especially to fruit perceived as soft. This will eliminate subjectiveness and enable us to set parameters at packing to prevent fruit arriving soft in the market.”
